Dad Recatching his worms

Before we left for Mackay, we had to have our family’s annual event, the “Gathering of the Worms”. My dad fills a 50-gallon drum with water and some chemical that makes the worms feel like they can’t breathe. Then he dumps it on our lawn and hundreds of worms start coming out of the ground immediately. Then everyone picks up the worms as fast as they can and we dump them into the bait box for our trip to Mackay. The funny thing is that we stand around saying or thinking about how disgusting it is, yet we just can’t help ourselves and we have to pick them up. It’s like zits; they are gross, but you just have to pop them! Anyway, after multiple dumps, we collected about 1,300 worms. The worms are stored in bait containers in the basement because it is cool. One evening we were in the basement with Matt and Erika. I commented on something smelling funny. I figured it must be a dead mouse, but upon closer inspection, we discovered that dad had left the lid of the bait boxes so the worms could get some air and some of the worms had gotten out. They were slinking across the cement floor. My dad had already gone to bed, but when he found out that the worms were out, he put on my mom’s bathrobe and came right downstairs to check on them. He started picking them up like a mother hen gathering her eggs. We were all so shocked by his outfit that we just stood there and laughed instead of helping.
